Nasarawa Farmers Get Boost with World Bank’s $250,000 Agricultural Grant

Ten communities in Nasarawa State have benefited from two hundred and fifty thousand dollars from the World Bank as part of the agricultural support programme under the Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape ACReSAL.

In an event that took place in Yelwa Idia in Doma Local Government Area, Governor Abdullahi Sule said the gesture will go a long way in supporting the farming communities.

Underscoring the importance of the event, Governor Abdullahi Sule said the beneficiaries of the loans in Toto and Doma must do well to ensure the success of the revolving loans, just as he registered his concern to issues of climate change which the ACReSAL project stands to address.

The Country Representative of Food and Agricultural Organisation, FAO, Dominque Koffy Kouacou said the event has uncovered the agricultural potential in Nasarawa State.

The disbursement of twenty-five thousand dollars to each of the benefiting communities was a gesture that received accolades from the Chairman of the Steering Committee of ACReSAL and State Commissioner of Finance, Kwnata Yakubu, his counterpart of finance, Munira Abdullahi all assuring of their commitment of the success of the project.

Chairman Doma Local Government Council, Ahmed Sarki Usman, Andoma of Doma, Ahmadu Aliyu Ogah Onawo also appreciated the focus of the ACReSAL Project in addressing the challenges being faced by the people.

Meantime, during an Interactive Session with the World Bank Team at the Government House, Nasarawa State was said to have qualified from tier one to tier two of the ACReSAL project, translating into more benefits for the state.

Technical Team Lead of World Bank, Joy Iganya Igene state this after ascertaining the commencement of ACReSAL activities in Nasarawa State, calling for additional efforts towards ensuring the result of projects being implemented.

On his part, Country Representative of the Food and Agricultural Organisation, FAO, Dominque Koffy Kouaco who is in the state to support the ACReSAL mission, appreciated the agricultural potential of Nasarawa State, thus renewing the commitment of the organisation for a robust collaboration with the state government.

To the National Coordinator of ACRESAL Abdulhamid Umar, the heights achieved can only be attributed to the magnanimity of Governor Abdullahi Sule towards the development of Nasarawa State and its people.

Appreciating the team, Governor Abdullahi Sule said his choice of Nasarawa State for the engagement by ARESAL is overwhelming and assured that the state is not taking the upgrade to tier two of the project for granted, affirming that it will stimulate more activities in that regard, even as he assured that the projects being implemented and the loans that have been disbursed would be used judiciously.
