The Nasarawa State Government has allocated the sum of 500 million naira as counterpart funding for the State Social Health Insurance Scheme.

The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, announced this financial commitment during the flag off of the enrollment of Nasarawa State Judiciary Commission staff into the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Scheme.

The commissioner of health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna emphasized that the 500 million naira in counterpart funding reflects the dedication of State Governor Engineer Abdullahi Sule to provide essential support for the people of Nasarawa State, particularly those in the formal sector, in accessing healthcare services without facing financial hurdles.

He clarified that this amount would cover seven percent of the employers’ contributions, while employees would be responsible for three percent of their basic salaries.

Dr. Yahaya Bawa Ubam, the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency, pointed out that over 85 percent of the state’s workers have already been enrolled in the state health insurance scheme, noting that 40 percent of the informal sector has been included.

He pledged to enroll more individuals to achieve universal health coverage in the state.

In recognition of the dedication and commitment of the State Health Insurance Agency to achieving Universal Health Coverage, the Nasarawa State Chief Judge, Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu, and Chairman of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) Nasarawa State Council, Barrister Jimo Musa Alonge expressed their members’ commitment to engaging with the scheme.

As part of the event, identity cards were presented to several members who had already been enrolled in the scheme.
