Over 300 Nasarawa Farmers Receive Agricultural Inpu
More than 300 farmers in the Northern Senatorial District of Nasarawa State have benefited from a large-scale distribution of agricultural inputs aimed at boosting food production and improving farming activities in the area.
The intervention was provided by the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and former Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Adamu Abubakar.
The ERCC headquarters in Alushi, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, was filled to capacity as beneficiaries drawn from the three local government areas that make up the senatorial district gathered to receive their agricultural support packages.
The items distributed included tractors, power tillers, tricycles, fertilisers, rice milling machines, solar-powered water pumps, crop boosters, sprayers and threshing machines.
In addition to the farm equipment and inputs, each beneficiary also received N50,000 in cash to assist with labour, transportation and other related planting expenses.
Addressing the gathering, the SDP flag bearer and former police chief, Muhammad Abubakar Adamu, explained that the intervention was designed to complement government efforts towards addressing food insecurity.
He said the initiative was also aimed at empowering rural farming communities and enabling them to increase agricultural production ahead of the next planting season.
In a remark, the lawmaker representing Akwanga-Nasarawa Eggon-Wamba Federal Constituency, Jeremiah Umaru, commended the initiative.
He noted that the provision of mechanised farming equipment would significantly improve the livelihoods of rural farmers, reduce post-harvest losses and encourage the adoption of modern agricultural practices across the senatorial district.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed excitement over the support, describing it as a timely intervention, particularly in view of the current economic challenges and the rising cost of agricultural inputs.
They pledged to make optimal use of the equipment and funds provided to them in order to increase agricultural production and contribute towards ensuring food sufficiency in Nasarawa State.
