Christians Urged To Prioritise Welfare Of Clergymen
Christians have been challenged to prioritise the welfare of clergymen to enable them to effectively propagate the gospel of Christ.
Reverend John Danlami Amushi of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Bukan Sidi, Lafia, stated this during a service to mark the end of this year’s Pastors’ Welfare Week of the church.
Pastors’ Welfare Week is an annual programme organised by the ECWA leadership to enable members to appreciate and support reverends and pastors who have dedicated their lives to working in God’s vineyard, while encouraging them to continue with the work of evangelism.
In an interview, the Reverend in charge of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Bukan Sidi, Lafia, John Danlami Amushi, affirmed that giving priority to the welfare of the clergy is scriptural, urging believers to make it a duty to care for their pastors.
He noted that the annual initiative by the ECWA leadership to appreciate its reverends and pastors is a welcome development aimed at motivating them to perform their duties effectively.
In a sermon, the guest speaker at the service, Evangelist CSP Ayuba Akawu Iliya, who centred his message on the Book of Timothy, highlighted the roles and responsibilities of clergymen, which include preaching the Gospel, providing spiritual guidance and counselling, caring for members, promoting unity, and serving as good examples of Christian faith and conduct.
He admonished Christians to ensure that reverends and pastors are adequately supported and cared for, stressing that their welfare is essential to the effective propagation of the gospel.
Evangelist Iliya expressed concern over the neglect of pastors’ welfare by some churches and individuals, particularly those who have retired from active service, and called for a change in attitude towards them.
