Nasarawa Education Commissioner Tasks Principals on Better Academic Performance
Heads of secondary schools in Nasarawa State have been urged to develop new strategies aimed at improving academic performance as schools across the state prepare to reopen for the 2026/2027 academic session on Monday, September 14.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, gave the charge during a pre-resumption meeting with principals of secondary schools held at Government Science Secondary School, Lafia.
The Commissioner for Education, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Khadija Musa Suleiman, said the state government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule remained committed to consolidating the gains already recorded in the education sector.
He explained that the government was investing heavily in school infrastructure to ensure effective teaching and learning across the state.
According to him, achieving the desired results requires the collective commitment and cooperation of all stakeholders in the education sector.
The Commissioner called on school heads to ensure that their schools provide a conducive learning environment for both students and teachers, stressing that a supportive environment was essential for improved academic outcomes.
Also speaking, the Director of Schools in the Ministry, Mr. Christopher Ogiri, warned principals against absenteeism, truancy and other acts capable of undermining the efforts of the state government in the education sector.
He urged school heads to demonstrate commitment to their responsibilities and ensure that schools operate effectively throughout the academic session.
In his remarks, the Director of Human Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Azaki, commended the school heads for their contributions towards improving the quality of education in the state.
He called on them to sustain their efforts and remain committed to the development of the education sector.
Representatives of other relevant agencies also advised the principals to pay greater attention to important areas, including increasing student enrolment, protecting school lands from encroachment, carrying out regular maintenance of school facilities and ensuring the security of lives and property within their schools.
The southern zonal pre-resumption meeting ended with a call on all stakeholders in the education sector to work together to ensure a smooth and successful 2026/2027 academic session.
