Awuma Community Seeks Government Help to Rebuild Washed-Away Bridge
A passionate appeal has been made to the Nasarawa State Government to come to the aid of Awuma Community in Lafia North Area Administrative Council by reconstructing the bridge linking the community to other parts of the area.
The Oriye Awuma, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Madaki, made the appeal while supervising a self-help bridge construction project embarked upon by members of the community.
Awuma Community in Lafia North Area Administrative Council has been cut off from neighbouring communities following a heavy downpour that washed away the bridge providing access to Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
Since the incident, members of the community have been experiencing untold hardship in the movement of people and goods.
It was against this backdrop that the community, under the leadership of its traditional ruler, Oriye Awuma, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Madaki, embarked on a communal effort as an alternative means of creating access to the area.
Supervising the exercise, the Oriye Awuma, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Madaki, commended members of the community for their loyalty, resilience and obedience.
He, however, reiterated the urgent need for government intervention to provide a permanent solution to the problem.
Other speakers, including Malam Abbas Ibrahim, a member of the Management Committee of Lafia North Area Administrative Council, and the Danmaje of Awuma, lamented the hardship caused by the natural disaster.
During the visit, NBS News observed that a large number of members of the affected community participated in the construction of a local bridge and the clearing of the road as part of the self-help initiative.
The community is therefore appealing for urgent government support to restore permanent access and alleviate the suffering of the people.
