Former APC Senatorial Aspirant Ari Defects To SDP
A former APC Senatorial Aspirant for Nasarawa South Senatorial District, DIG Mohamed Ali Ari (Rtd.), has called on political parties to align with values that promote internal democracy, inclusiveness and accountability.
DIG Ari made the call on Thursday while announcing his decision to leave the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) at his campaign office along Jos Road, Lafia.
Addressing journalists and his supporters from across Nasarawa South Senatorial District, DIG Mohamed Ali Ari said his decision to join the SDP was not motivated by personal ambition but was anchored on the principles of inclusiveness and accountability.
He added that democracy thrives where the voices of ordinary citizens are heard and counted.
DIG Ari, while acknowledging the love and support of individuals across the board, said he remains grateful to the leaders and entire members of the APC with whom he shared political experiences over the years.
He maintained that it is necessary for every member of a political party to have a sense of belonging in order to sustain participatory democracy in the interest of peace and tranquillity.
He appealed to his political associates, supporters, friends and well-wishers to remain calm, focused and committed to democratic values.
The former police chief also noted that his decision to leave the APC should not be interpreted as a declaration of war against anyone, stressing that despite their political differences, they remain Nigerians and stakeholders in the same democratic society.
