INEC, Security Agencies Strengthen Collaboration Ahead Of 2027 Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will strengthen synergy with security agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Nasarawa State, Mallam Muhammed Abubakar Sadiq, stated this during the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Security meeting held at the INEC headquarters on Kurikyo Road, Lafia.
The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting, convened at the instance of the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Nasarawa State, brought together heads of security agencies in the state to deliberate on vital issues aimed at ensuring a hitch-free conduct of the forthcoming general elections.
Addressing the security chiefs, the Chairman of the Committee and Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Muhammed Abubakar Sadiq, noted that the meeting was significant because it provided an opportunity for heads of security agencies and INEC officials to brainstorm on ways to ensure the success of the 2027 general elections.
He pointed out that the meeting would further assess security implications and threats by identifying potential flashpoints, with a view to mitigating risks early, as well as strengthening intelligence-sharing among security agencies as a key mechanism for tackling security threats.
The Nasarawa State REC maintained that the enforcement of campaign guidelines is aimed at ensuring that political parties and candidates adhere strictly to campaign regulations, curb hate speech, prevent incitement, and discourage political violence.
He also commended the security agencies for their efforts during the by-election in Nasarawa North Constituency and appealed for increased efforts during the general elections.
The REC also challenged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies to achieve success during and after the general elections.
