Fifty Akwanga Women Receive N500,000 Empowerment Grants
No fewer than fifty women from across Akwanga Local Government Area have received financial grants to boost petty trading and enhance their economic independence.
The empowerment initiative, which was organised by the Forum of Special Assistants for Nasarawa North Senatorial District, took place in Gudi.
The beneficiaries, drawn from all wards in the local government, each received N10,000, bringing the total disbursement to N500,000.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Forum of Special Assistants, Yahaya Idris Mama, explained that the gesture was specifically designed to uplift vulnerable women, particularly widows, who often bear the brunt of economic hardship.
Idris Mama, who is the Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Security and Sundry Matters, assured that similar interventions would be rolled out to other local government areas within the senatorial district in the coming weeks.
In a remark, the representative of the Sarkin Gudi, Abdulhamid Abdullahi, commended the forum for the laudable initiative, noting that such direct interventions would add significant value to the lives of the beneficiaries.
He urged them to reciprocate the gesture by using the funds prudently.
Other speakers at the event, including Khalid Sule Bawa, cautioned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against anti-party activities and called on the women to rally support for the party’s candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
They stressed that the empowerment initiative should not be politicised but rather seen as a community-building effort.
One of the female beneficiaries, who spoke on behalf of the recipients, expressed gratitude for the financial support and assured the forum of their unwavering loyalty to the ruling APC.
In a related development, the forum paid a courtesy visit to the Sarkin Gudi, Alhaji Sule Bawa, at his palace to seek his royal blessings and strengthen ties with the traditional institution.
