FULAFIA Approves Upgrade Of Sporting Facilities
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia, Professor Mohammed Isa Kida, has granted immediate approval for the upgrade of all sporting facilities within the institution to enhance sporting activities for both students and staff.
Professor Kida announced this at the conclusion of the Eleventh Edition of the Inter-Faculty Games, held at the University Sports Complex in Lafia.
The success of the Faculty of Physical Sciences came to fruition after an explosive ninety minutes of play against the Faculty of Social Sciences, in an encounter that ended 2-1 in favour of the Faculty of Physical Sciences.
Speaking at the end of the games, Professor Kida emphasised that the upgrades to the sporting facilities would be completed before the commencement of the Pre-Nigeria University Games scheduled to take place this year at the university.
He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to sports development, aimed at nurturing athletes who can represent the institution in various competitions.
Earlier, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, of the university, Professor Aleruchi Chukwu, commended the athletes for showcasing their prowess, pointing out that every athlete was a champion. She also encouraged them to take their careers seriously.
Professor Victor Samson Dugga, Chairman of the Sports Committee and Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for approving funds for the games.
He noted that the Inter-Faculty Games provide an opportunity to select athletes who will represent the university at the Pre-NUGA Games.
A total of twelve faculties participated in thirteen sporting events, including athletics, football, scrabble, badminton, basketball, tug of war and volleyball, among others.
The Faculty of Life Sciences emerged as the overall winner of the Eleventh Edition of the Inter-Faculty Games, securing three gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals, while the College of Health Sciences finished second with two gold medals and one silver medal. The Faculty of Computing placed third with two gold medals.
