INEC Adopts Strategies To Boost Voter Turnout In 2027
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Nasarawa State has adopted strategies aimed at ensuring a high turnout of voters during the 2027 general elections.
Nasarawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Muhammad Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this at a capacity-building workshop for staff of the commission held at Mosmera Hotel, Lafia, on Monday.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Muhammad Abubakar Sadiq, explained that the programme was designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to perform their statutory responsibilities effectively as the 2027 general election approaches.
The REC, who explained that their role is critical to improving voter participation, awareness and public trust in the electoral process, maintained that the workshop was one of the strategies to ensure that INEC is fully prepared for the task ahead.
According to Abubakar Sadiq, participants are expected to return to their respective local government areas better equipped to cascade the strategies acquired and drive voter education to ensure adequate enlightenment and participation in the electoral process, which will positively impact democracy in the country.
Speaking earlier, the Director of Publicity, Voter Education, Gender and Inclusivity, Hajiya Safiya Garba, who commended the facilitators and resource persons for their expertise, enjoined participants to make good use of the skills acquired, adding that the electoral umpire is committed to delivering credible, free and fair elections in 2027.
The workshop brought together Assistant Electoral Officers and Voter Education Desk Officers from Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa and the FCT, comprising 63 participants.
