The Chairman of Doma Local Government Council, Jonathan Okuba Addra, has commended practicing journalists in Nasarawa State for their contributions towards promoting peace, unity and development through responsible reportage.

Addra gave the commendation when members of the Doma Journalists Forum, led by its Chairman, Comrade God’spower Ede, paid him a solidarity visit in his office on Tuesday.

Receiving the delegation of the Forum, the Chairman of Doma Local Government Council, Jonathan Okuba Addra, described the media as a critical partner in development, particularly in informing and educating the public about government programmes, policies and activities.

Addra also commended journalists of Doma extraction for their role in countering misinformation and urged them to sustain responsible reporting that promotes peace, unity and public trust.

While assuring the Forum of his administration’s continued cooperation, the Chairman disclosed that the council had resolved to use funds recently refunded by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to establish an anti-snakebite treatment centre in Doma.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Doma Journalists Forum, Comrade God’spower Ede, said the visit was aimed at appreciating Addra’s efforts towards promoting unity and peaceful coexistence in the local government.

He explained that the Forum comprises practicing journalists who are bona fide sons and daughters of Doma working within and outside Nasarawa State.

Comrade Ede described the leadership of the council chairman as inclusive, saying his commitment to bringing people together had earned him the title of “Mr Unity.”

The Forum also presented an Award of Excellence to Jonathan Okuba Addra in recognition of his performance in piloting the affairs of the council.

The journalists pledged their continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting peace, unity and sustainable development in Doma Local Government Area.
