Cleric Urges Politicians to Adhere to Electoral Laws Ahead of Elections

The Deputy Chief Imam of Tudun Kauri Juma’at Mosque, Malam Abubakar Umar Baba, has called on politicians to conduct their campaigns in accordance with the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The Islamic cleric made the call while delivering a sermon at the mosque in Lafia.
Emphasising the importance of violence-free campaigns and elections, Malam Abubakar Umar Baba urged politicians to strictly adhere to electoral laws in order to prevent violence and other forms of disruption during the electioneering period.
Citing verses from the Glorious Qur’an and traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, Malam Abubakar Umar Baba called on candidates of all political parties, the electorate and electoral officials to uphold justice, fairness and integrity in the discharge of their respective responsibilities.
The Islamic cleric also advised that anyone whose actions during political campaigns or elections result in the loss of lives or destruction of property should face the full force of the law.
Malam Abubakar Umar Baba equally called on parents, religious leaders and community leaders to caution young people against the use of illicit drugs, which he said could jeopardise their future and negatively affect their contribution to society.
The Juma’at prayer concluded with supplications for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming general elections in Nasarawa State and the country at large.
