Bangladesh Releases Botswana Woman Sentenced To Death for Drug Trafficking
From the foreign scene, Bangladesh has released a Botswana woman who was sentenced to death for drug trafficking, paving the way for her return home on Wednesday.
The release of the 33-year-old woman, who was arrested in Dhaka in 2022, followed diplomatic efforts by Botswana authorities and an appeal by President Duma Boko.
Lesedi Molapisi, 33, was reportedly found carrying heroin when she arrived in Bangladesh on a flight from South Africa and was subsequently sentenced to death in 2024.
Botswana said its diplomatic missions in neighbouring South Africa and India had also engaged with the Bangladeshi authorities over her case.
