State Assembly Tasks Govt on Brain Drain at DASH Lafia
Nasarawa State House of Assembly has tasked the state government to initiate policies that will reduce brain drain at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia.
The house gave the task when the management of the hospital appeared to defend their first quarter expenditure of this year’s budget.
The rate at which medical doctors are leaving the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia in recent times has been a source of concern and this is one of issues that dominated conversation when management of the hospital appeared for budget assessment.
According to the Chief Medical Director of the facility, Dr Ikrama Hassan, 24 medical doctors have left so far with 7 other replaced, a situation the house committee chairman on health, Larry Ven Bawa said needs urgent intervention.
On land, the Director General, Nasarawa State Geographical Information Services NAGIS, Sonny Agassi while appearing for assessment disclosed that the agency has generated Five Hundred and Thirty Six Million Naira as revenue in the last four months and promised to double the performance before the end of 2024, an achievement the house committee chairman land and survey, Emmanuel Ezekiel Manding said is commendable.
Away from the Assembly complex, the house committee on Education was at the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Lafia for budget assessment where the management of the institution revealed that it has 500 million Naira pending gratuity and called for upward review of its budget.
The Abel Bala led committee informed the management that given the lucrative nature of Agriculture, they must explore avenues to generate revenue and give farmers policy directions for food security.
At the Isa Mustapha Agwai the first polytechnic Lafia, the management informed the visitors that new program have been secured but funding and manpower remained the major constraint, making a case for budget increment, a request Abel Bala said will be looked into.
