First Session of Nasarawa State Students’ Parliament Inaugurated
Nasarawa State Government says it will continue to prioritize youth friendly programmes to develop their capacity for further leadership roles.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe stated this during the inauguration of the first session of Nasarawa State Students Parliament at the Conference Hall of Ministry for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lafia.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Ja’afaru Ango, the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe said the doors of the present administration are open to youths who are willing to contribute their quota to the development of the state.
According to him, the state government will continue to create enabling environment for the youths to put their talents to use, and will ensure their inclusion in policy drive of the government.
The deputy governor described the establishment of the Students Parliament as a good omen for the state, reiterating government’s support to the students’ body, just as the Speaker of the state Assembly, Danladi Jatau represented by Member representing Lafia North Barrister Esson Mairiga Constituency shared his views and sued for unity of purpose to advance the course of the Parliament and the state in its entirety.
Highlighting the essence of the Students Parliament, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths and Students Affairs, Comrade Shuaibu Sani explained that it provides a statewide platform for cross fertilization of ideas amongst students of various tertiary institutions in the state, adding that it is a replica of the state House of Assembly.
While appealing to the leadership of the state Assembly to consider the enactment of a bill to give the students body the required backing to function effectively, Comrade Shuaibu Sani urged the students Parliament to partner relevant agencies and other students’ related bodies to achieve set objectives.
The newly inaugurated Speaker of the Students Parliament, Surajo Dahiru Mu’azu appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule for approving the establishment of the Parliament and commended the House of Assembly, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths and Students Affairs as well as the state ministry of Youths and Sports Development for the roles played to make the students legislative body a reality, promising to uphold the confidence reposed in them.
The event featured the inauguration of the first members of state students Parliament, oath taking by the members and presentation of certificates.
