Agric: Gov. Sule Flags Off Distribution of Fertilizers for Wet Season Farming

Governor Abdullahi Sule has flagged off the distribution of fertilizers for wet season farming to boost agricultural production in Nasarawa state.

The Governor Flagged off the exercise in Awe and Obi local Government Areas.

The requirements for an improved agricultural yield rely heavily on inputs such as fertilizers and herbicides.

It is with such conviction that Governor Abdullahi Sule is Flagging off the distribution of the fertilizers across the one hundred and seventy four wards of the state.

To see to it that farmers take advantage of the gesture for a bumper harvest and enhanced food security, the Governor tasked stakeholders to ensure only genuine farmers benefit, just as he appreciated the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for making the commodity available.

In Awe and Obi and local government areas, one hundred farmers in each electoral ward are to benefit from the product made up of eighty bags of NPK and twenty bags of Urea, a measure the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Abubakar Umar Danakano attributed to the vision of Governor Abdullahi Sule, evident in his efforts at revitalising the agricultural sector.

While in Obi, Governor Sule further sought the support of the people within the locations of the ten thousand hectares of government farm not to encroach on such farms as the government has already fashioned out a system that allow them benefit from the initiative.

The State Commissioner for Special Duties Humanitarian Services and NGOs, Princess Margaret Elayo lauds the initiative especially as it is being distributed free and without recourse to ethno political sentiments, while the Chairman of Awe Local Government Council, and his counterpart of Obi Zhe Joshua Yekpowudu said it will enhance the capacity of farmers and food security.

Appreciating the Governor’s focus on agriculture, the Emir of Awe, Isa Abubakar Umar and the Zhe Migili, Ayuba Agwadu Audu said it will go an extra mile in cushioning the effects of the current economic realities, even as they called on the benefiting farmers not to sale the commodity but use it for the intended purpose.

Meantime, Governor Abdullahi Sule also visited the site for the Awe modern market where work has reached an appreciable level, thus urging the some of the contractors that are yet to complete their work to redouble efforts.
