Combating Drug Abuse: NDLEA Chief says Collaborating with Youth is Key
Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nasarawa State, Peter Ochuche, has emphasized the importance of collaboration with youth groups in combating drug abuse among young people.
He made this known while hosting the leadership of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Nasarawa State Chapter, at the NDLEA command office along Markurdi Road, Lafia.
During discussions with the officials of Youth Assembly of Nigeria led by Speaker Habiba Umar Iliyasu, the state Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Peter Ochuche, underscored the vital role of youth as future leaders and stressed the necessity for them to live responsibly by avoiding drug use.
The NDLEA Commander commended the YAN leadership for their initiative to collaborate with the agency, noting that such partnerships are crucial for reducing the rising rates of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the state.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to working with youth organizations and other relevant stakeholders to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, while also appealing to the public for continued support to achieve better outcomes.
In her submission, The Speaker Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Nasarawa State Chapter Habiba Umar Iliyasu expressed commitment to partnering with the NDLEA to combat drug abuse among young people in Nasarawa State.
She explained that the purpose of the visit was to inform the Commander about YAN’s desire to enhance advocacy and awareness programs involving NDLEA personnel and other security agencies. emphasizing the importance of educating the youth about the dangers associated with drug use.
