Gov. Sule Advocates for Investment in Youth and Women Development to Combat Drug Abuse

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has emphasized the need for stakeholders to invest in initiatives that promote the development of women and youths in the society.

He made this call during the opening of a two-day workshop on narcotics and drugs, stressing that drug abuse affects the health and wellbeing of women and youths.

The workshop, themed “Community Participation by Critical Stakeholders as Essential Partners in the Fight against Drugs Peddling, Use and Abuse Among Female Gender and the Youths in Nigeria,” aimed to harmonize ideas to address the social phenomenon of drug abuse.

Governor Sule expressed concern over the involvement of women and youths in drug abuse, calling for actions to support government policies and programs that engage them in valuable ventures.

Key Stakeholders’ Reactions

  • Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Narcotic and Drug Abuse, Abbas Adigun, emphasized the workshop’s importance in addressing the negative consequences of drug abuse and promoting meaningful contributions from women and youths.
  • Nasarawa State Chief Judge, Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu, and Speaker Danladi Jatau (represented by Chairman House Committee on Women Affairs Hajiya Hajara Danyaro) shared the notion that the workshop will help find solutions to drug abuse.
  • Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women and Social Development, Aisha Rufai Ibrahim, attributed drug abuse to domestic and societal issues, highlighting the workshop’s timeliness.
  • Commissioner for Health, Doctor Gaza Gwamna, committed to addressing drug abuse through the mental health unit at Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital.

The workshop featured inputs from Emir of Azara, Doctor Kabir Musa, on the dangers of drug abuse.

Prior to the workshop, the House of Representatives Committee on Narcotics paid a courtesy call on Governor Abdullahi Sule.
