Nasarawa State House of Assembly Urges Government to Absorb Casual Staff at Comprehensive Special School
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called on the state government to absorb casual staff at the Government Comprehensive Special School in Lafia to enhance productivity at the institution. This appeal was made by Abel Yakubu Bala, Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, during an oversight visit to the school.
During their inspection, the committee noted that the school is severely understaffed and urged the government to take immediate action. Bala revealed that out of the total staff, 170 are casual employees whose morale has been adversely affected by their unstable employment status. He advocated for their integration into the mainstream civil service to improve their effectiveness. Bala also praised the Head of the School, Dr. Andrew Yakubu, for maintaining high standards despite the challenges faced by the institution.
Dr. Yakubu expressed gratitude for the committee’s oversight, stating that their commitment to sustaining the quality of education in the special school is encouraging, especially given the current manpower shortages.
In a separate engagement, Solomon Akwashiki, the member representing Lafia Central constituency, welcomed the Wakwa Ward Community Development Association, who came to thank him for providing boreholes and electricity to various villages within the electoral ward. The community took the opportunity to request Akwashiki’s assistance in advocating for employment opportunities, social interventions, infrastructure development, and improved management of the federal university’s social responsibilities to their community.
Akwashiki assured the delegation that their requests would be considered as part of his efforts to enhance the lives of rural residents. He also hosted the DJ Association of Niagara, Lafia Branch, where he was appointed as the association’s patron.
