The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has emphasized the importance of registered political parties adhering to its electoral guidelines for the upcoming local government elections. Barrister Ayuba Wandai Usman, NASIEC Chairman, made this call during a meeting with directors, electoral officers, and staff from the state’s 13 local government areas.
The meeting aimed to facilitate discussions and ensure a seamless electoral process. Usman stressed the need for staff to uphold ethical standards and avoid malpractice, warning that the Commission will take strict action against violators. He also highlighted innovations to boost the electoral process credibility, set to take place on November 2.
Eight political parties have registered for the elections, and Usman advised them to maintain ethical standards to promote internal democracy in the state. He clarified that candidate name changes after submission will only be permitted under genuine circumstances.
Key guidelines for the elections include:
- Chairmanship Aspirants’ Fee: A non-refundable sum of 2.5 million naira.
- Election Date: November 2, 2024.
- Registered Parties: Eight parties have confirmed participation.
By emphasizing adherence to guidelines and ethical conduct, NASIEC aims to ensure a fair and successful electoral process.
