The Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service has finalized plans to introduce electronic ticketing, also known as e-ticketing, for transport unions across the state. This move aims to boost internally generated revenue from the informal sector.

According to Sabo Balarabe Usman, Permanent Member One of the Nasarawa Internal Revenue Service, the decision was made after a meeting with transport unions at the Board’s headquarters in Lafia. The meeting was attended by representatives from the board, transport unions, market representatives, and project consultants.

The e-ticketing system is designed to promote collection efficiency, implement the Nasarawa State Revenue Harmonization Law, and sanitize informal sector revenue collection. The state internal revenue service will begin enforcing daily e-tickets across all parks, including public and private ones, starting February 10, 2025.

The new system will collect transport daily tolls, parks/terminal tolls, and e-manifest directly without union dues. To ensure a seamless transition, the enforcement will run concurrently with manual union collections until the end of March 2025.

Mr. Mac Atasie, President of Next Automate, the consultant supervising the project, explained that the new system has transformed revenue collection in the informal sector from paper to electronic modules. The system uses an application to identify individual taxpayers via phone numbers, ensuring no revenue is lost to fraudulent processes.

The Sarkin Kasuwan Lafia, Alh. Mohammed Alkali, welcomed the e-ticket idea, stating that his members have adopted it, contributing greatly to boosting the state’s internally generated revenue for development purposes.
