Edo State Government Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Women and Children’s Rights

The Edo State Government has reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the rights and dignity of women and children, ensuring justice for the vulnerable in the state. Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa made this declaration while receiving members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Edo State Branch, at the Government House in Benin.

Idahosa emphasized that the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration prioritizes equity, fairness, and justice, particularly for women, children, and other vulnerable groups. He acknowledged the vital role women and children play in driving societal progress and pledged the government’s support in protecting their interests.

The deputy governor assured FIDA of the government’s partnership and support, highlighting the alignment of their mandates. He commended FIDA’s dedication to empowering vulnerable Edo residents and restoring their dignity. Idahosa also acknowledged the challenges FIDA faces and promised to discuss them with the governor for possible intervention.

FIDA Chairperson Francisca Elema reiterated the association’s commitment to partnering with the state government to promote development and good governance across Edo. FIDA remains dedicated to advocating for the rights of women and children, ensuring justice is accessible to all, regardless of their socio-economic background.

This commitment is in line with the Edo State Government’s efforts to promote social justice and gender equality. The Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues is responsible for ensuring coordinated efforts in providing social welfare and rehabilitation services to vulnerable groups Âą. Additionally, the state government has enacted laws, such as the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, to protect women and children from violence and abuse.
