Nasarawa State Stakeholders Unite to Empower Adolescent Girls

Stakeholders from various sectors in Nasarawa State have come together to develop a comprehensive framework aimed at addressing the barriers to life skills for adolescent girls. The two-day event, held at Awa Diamond Hotel, brought together participants from health, education, environment, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) sectors.
The project inception meeting and co-creation workshop were organized by the Society for Family Health and the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE). The workshop focused on life skills that will empower adolescent girls to excel despite challenges such as gender-based violence, climate change, poor health and nutrition, economic vulnerability, and education disruption .
Pharmacist Jane Adizue, Project Director of AGILE, emphasized the need for collaboration to complement the government’s commitment to ensuring girls’ access to education, healthcare, and other essential services. The goal is to develop solutions tailored to the specific needs of adolescent girls in Nasarawa State.
Hajiya Aishatu Aliyu Isoga, Nasarawa State Project Coordinator for AGILE, acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders and stressed that more efforts are required for effective project implementation. Top government officials, including Doctor Ibrahim Alhassan, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Youths and Sports Development, and Doctor John Damina, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, commended the initiative and pledged their commitment to achieving the targeted goals.
The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) is a World Bank-assisted project aimed at improving secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls in targeted areas . In Nasarawa State, over 20,000 out-of-school girls are benefiting from the Conditional Cash Transfer scheme under the AGILE program .
