Muslim women in Nasarawa State, Nigeria, have been reminded of the significance of wearing the Hijab as a fundamental commandment of Islam, rather than just a form of dressing. This message was conveyed by Hajiya Asiya Ahmed, the State Amirah of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), during the 12th annual World Hijab Day celebration held at the Palace of Osuko of Obi.

World Hijab Day, celebrated on February 1st every year, aims to raise public awareness about the importance of wearing the Hijab and encourage Muslim women to embrace modesty. The FOMWAN Obi branch organized an event to commemorate this day, with the goal of increasing awareness among Muslim women about the significance of wearing the Hijab.

Hajiya Hasiya Ahmed emphasized that wearing the Hijab is not just a personal choice, but a commandment from God that must be obeyed. She likened it to the daily prayers, which are a fundamental aspect of Islam. Ahmed also commended the Obi chapter of FOMWAN for fostering relationships between Christian and Muslim women in the area, and encouraged others to adopt a similar approach.

Dr. Zainab Ahmed, the National Assistant Secretary and Zonal Coordinator of FOMWAN, emphasized the need to continue sensitizing women, especially the youth, on the importance of wearing the Hijab. This sentiment was echoed by Bilkisu Umar, the Amirah of FOMWAN Obi LGA, who stated that this year’s event aims to increase awareness among Muslim women regarding the significance of wearing the Hijab.
