Nasarawa State has taken a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability with the launch of a tree planting campaign. The initiative, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Environment, NYSC Environmental Protection and Sanitation CDS group, and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), aims to plant 5,000 trees across Lafia in 2025.

The campaign was flagged off by the NYSC Nasarawa State Coordinator, Salamatu A. Mohammed, at the NYSC State Secretariat in Tudun Gwandara. To mark the occasion, over 30 trees were planted at the secretariat, symbolizing the start of the ambitious project.

Mr. Walbe Setka, representing the NYSC Nasarawa State Coordinator, emphasized the importance of tree planting in combating deforestation and enhancing public spaces. He commended the Ministry of Environment and NESREA for their collaboration and support in promoting environmental conservation across Nasarawa State.

The representative of NESREA, Mr. Emmanuel Gazama, highlighted the crucial role trees play in maintaining a habitable planet, describing them as “the lungs of the earth.” The ceremonial planting of trees by dignitaries, NYSC officials, and corps members was a significant moment in the event, marking the beginning of a broader environmental protection effort across Lafia.

This initiative is part of a larger effort to address environmental concerns, such as climate change, which has been a focus of the NYSC and the Federal Government. By planting trees, the campaign aims to promote environmental sustainability, enhance public spaces, and inspire a sense of responsibility among citizens to protect the environment.
