The people of Nasarawa State, including stakeholders and residents of Lafia, have joined the nation in mourning the passing of former President of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari, who died on July 13, 2025, in London at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.

In separate interviews with NBS News in Lafia, various individuals expressed their heartfelt condolences and paid tribute to the late leader. The Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Dr. Ibrahim Tanko, and the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency (NASHIA), Dr. Yahaya Bawa Ubam, described President Buhari’s demise as a colossal loss to the nation.

They acknowledged his credible service to the country and praised his positive impacts, characterizing him as a patriot, soldier, and statesman who stood firm during turbulent times. Special Assistants to the Governor, Christopher Oyinaka and Alhassan Adamu Hussaini, lauded President Buhari as a democrat and nationalist who dedicated his life to Nigeria’s unity and progress.

Other residents, including Pastor Esi Onome and Ibrahim Ahmed, also expressed their condolences, describing President Buhari as a patriot, reformer, and figure marked by discipline, integrity, and unwavering service to the Nigerian people. They noted that his legacy cannot be easily forgotten.

President Buhari’s Legacy

Born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, General Muhammadu Buhari joined the Nigerian army at 19 and rose to the rank of Major General. He served as the military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and later became President, winning elections in 2015 and 2019. During his tenure, he initiated several reforms, including the war against indiscipline.
