Governor Sule Stresses Need for Transparency and Accountability in Public Offices
Governor Abdullahi Sule has tasked political and public office holders in Nasarawa State on adherence to the provisions of the Code of Conduct. The Governor said this while declaring open a two-day workshop organised for political and public office holders.
Held at the conference hall of the State Ministry for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, the workshop was organised by the Code of Conduct Bureau and Nasarawa State Government with a bid to acquainting public and political office holders with the rudiments of assets declaration and what it entailed.
Declaring the Workshop open, Governor Abdullahi Sule recognised the responsibility of the Code of Conduct Bureau in enhancing the fight against corruption and ensuring prudence and accountability which his administration also seeks to promote.
The Governor noted the need for strict compliance by all political and public officers to the provisions of the Code of Conduct Bureau, saying this has become eminent due to the need for them to be transparent in all ramifications.
Assuring of government’s support to activities of the bureau in Nasarawa State, Governor Sule enjoined the resource persons to divulge ideas that are geared at educating the participants on the importance of the Assets Declaration Act.
Commending Governor Abdullahi Sule for the attention accorded the Code of Conduct Bureau in Nasarawa State, Acting Chairman organisation, Barrister, Murtala Aliyu Kankiya charged government officials to leave to the expectation of their respective duties and be guided by acts that are not in contrast with the law.
Outlining the focus of the Bureau on ensuring public morality among public officers, Barrister Kankia enjoined them to emulate Governor Abdullahi Sule’s prudence and accountable nature which also serves as a point of reference for other state Governors.
The Acting Chairman of the Code of Conduct also posited that the bureau has also carried out some reforms to further strengthen the activities of the organisation, thereby urging the public officers in Nasarawa to key in by adhering to the provisions of the code of conduct.
The two-day workshop also features papers on Code of Conduct Act and Code of Ethics in Government Business, CCB 1 for public officers, assets declaration, a tool in the fight against corruption.
