Nasarawa Assembly Seeks to End Illegal Mining, Requests Comprehensive List of Mining Sites
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has directed the ministry of environment to compile and make available to it all mining sites in the state following alleged illegal mining in the state.
Chairman House committee on Environment, Mohammed Adamu Omadefu made the house position known while assessing the 2024 budget of the state ministry of environment.
When the management of the state ministry of environment appeared to defend their 2024 budget, they acknowledged illegal mining in the state, a submission that propelled the chairman house committee on environment Mohammed Adamu Omadefu to direct the ministry to compile and make available to it all mining sites in the state for action.
On Information, the management of the state ministry of information while defending their budget revealed that modalities have been completed for the upgrade of the state media outfit, NBS at the tune of 1.4 billion Naria.
Chairman house committee on information, Jonah Ali Dizaho informed the ministry that the house of Assembly is backing the upgrade of NBS and promised to engage stakeholders on why the ministry is being frustrated in generating revenue from hotels and recreational centers in the state.
On public account, when the management of the state civil service Commission appeared, they accused the state commissioners for employing others in their ministries instead of the casual staff as directed by the governor, an allegation, the chairman of the committee Solomon Akwashiki said it will not be treated with levity.
In another development, chairman House committee on women Affairs, Hajara Danyaro while assessing the budget of the state ministry of women Affairs and social development tasked them to up their gains in budget expenditure to address the needs of children and women who are most vulnerable in the children
Meanwhile, the chairman house committee on Finance and Appropriation Hudu A Hudu while hosting the state Bureau for Public Procurement called for financial discipline in governance thus, commending the project financial management unit in the office of AG for being transparent in their budget expenditure.
Meantime the house standing committee on NASIEC and Multilateral Cooperation chaired by Jacob Ajegana Kudu while x-raying the budget of state Bureau for rural development commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for embarking on the construction of rural roads across the state and challenged the commission to ensure those projects are executed according to terms of agreement.
