Children with Disabilities Benefits from US Govt Alumni Mentorship Training
United States Government Alumni Association, Nasarawa State has organised mentorship training for children with disabilities in the state to enable them choose their career.
The program was held at the Government Comprehensive Special School Lafia.
Addressing pupils and students of Government Compressive Special School Lafia, team leader of the United States Government Alumni Association Nasarawa State, Blessing Ibi said the programme is focused on addressing issues affecting children with special needs in the society.
Blessing Ibi noted that one of the organization’s mandates is to bring out potentials among children with disability, and to remind the public of their responsibility in order to give them a sense of belonging.
Hajiya Hadiza Kasimu and Jessica Akenyin who are both hearing impaired facilitators spoke on the topics “Support Relationship with Friends, Family and Teachers”, called on parents to give adequate attention to children with physical challenge to enable them add value to nation building after graduation.
Affirming the adage that says there is ability in disability, the Head of Comprehensive Special School, Mr. Andrew Yakubu affirmed that the topic for the training is apt considering the peculiarity of children with special needs in the society and appreciated the United States Alumni Association for carrying along people with special needs in their projects.
Contributing, speakers during the program including the Director Social Services, Nasarawa State Disability Right Commission, Mrs. Esther Awu said organizing this kind of programs will enable the children make their choice of career after graduation, calling on other organizations to follow suit.
