Oboshi Emerges Speaker, Children’s Parliament
Nasarawa State Children’s Parliament has been constituted as a platform to unravel the plights of children for policy formulation and implementation to better the needs of children in the state.
This initiative according to the speaker, Nasarawa State House Assembly, Danladi Jatau will be strengthened to teach children the nation’s democratic tenets.
Children’s Parliament has gone into limbo for a while and the federal ministry of Women Affairs is resuscitating the parliament across the 36 states of the federation and in Nasarawa State the fifth children’s parliament was inaugurated by the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Danladi Jatau.
Speaker Jatau lauded the resuscitation of the children’s parliament saying it will build and strengthen the nation’s hard earned democracy and provide a platform where the yearnings of children will be brought to the fore; policy formulated and implemented for their betterment.
The wife of the state governor, Silifat Abdullahi Sule represented by the wife of the deputy governor, Shelan Tosan Akabe said her office will provide the needed support to the children’s parliament to enable the children discharge their responsibility and give them a sense of belonging.
To the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Rufa’i Ibrahim, noted that the Parliament will create a platform where the voices of children will be heard and “also contribute to issues that affect their welfare and development” thus commended the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule for signing an executive order in 2020 to enhance the full implementation of Child’s Rights Law in the state.
Representative of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Emmanuel Oche Al Hassan said the children’s parliament was deliberately resuscitated to give children a sense of belonging as a way of molding them to be responsible future leaders that will contribute to nation’s building.
After the inauguration, the fifth Nasarawa State children’s parliament under the speakership of Mary Owosonabi Oboshi held it first sitting where the parliament made a case for mechanism to be strengthened to sustain the children’s parliament in the state.
