The Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum has urged the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA to take more decisive actions towards curbing the increasing rate of drug abuse among youths in the country.

Chairperson of the Forum and Kwara State First Lady Olufolake Abdulrazaq gave the task during a two-day training for members of the forum which was held at the Nigerian Army Resource Center, Abuja.

Worried by the increasing rate of drug abuse among Nigerian youths, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) organized a training for wives of Nigerian governors under the auspices of Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum on Drug Prevention, Treatment and Care.

Addressing members of the forum, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa, said the training was aimed at equipping the state first ladies with prerequisite knowledge on how to go about drug prevention, treatment and care as well as rehabilitation of victims of drug abuse in their various states.

Buba Marwa called on the governors’ to as a matter of necessity support Commanders of the anti-drugs agency in their various states as they fight trafficking and use of illicit drugs in the society.

Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors Spouses Forum and First Lady of Kwara State, Olufolake Abdulrazaq, reaffirmed the resolve of the Governors’ spouses to the advocacy on drug prevention, treatment and care in order to have a better society.

The meeting also appealed for the establishment of Rehabilitation Centres across all the states of the federation for victims of drug abuse with skill acquisition facilities to engage them while undergoing rehabilitation. Contributors at the training session lamented on the high rate of drug abuse among the female gender, calling for a change.
