Osuko of Obi Calls for Unity and Development
The Osuko of Obi, Alhaji Aliyu Dangiwa Ogiri Orume, has called for greater unity, peaceful coexistence and a renewed focus on development for the benefit of the people of Obi and Nasarawa State as a whole.
The traditional ruler made the call while receiving a peace committee report aimed at bringing together the sons and daughters of the Obi community at his palace in Obi.
Presenting the committee’s report to the Obi Traditional Council, the Chairman of Obi Indigenes Resident in Lafia, the Ayi Khobi Olapiya, Engineer Aliyu Ayitogo Akase, expressed concern over the activities of various local political interest groups.
According to him, the failure of the groups to work as a united entity could undermine the progress and development of the area.
He explained that friction between political appointees and their loyalists had prompted the group’s decision to pursue reconciliation among the different factions in the interest of the growth and development of Obi.
Engineer Aliyu Akase further stated that the committee’s efforts had already begun to yield positive results, and called on all illustrious sons and daughters of Obi to give the process maximum support in the interest of the locality.
Responding shortly after receiving the document, the Osuko of Obi, Alhaji Aliyu Dangiwa Ogiri Orume, appreciated the foresight and dedication of the committee in taking what he described as a bold decision to unite all interest groups, particularly the political class.
The royal father highlighted the importance of peace and unity to societal development and stressed the need for Obi indigenes to put past grievances behind them and embrace one another regardless of political or other affiliations.
He said unity and peaceful coexistence would create the right atmosphere for meaningful development and progress in the community.
