Speaker Urges Politicians to Follow Electoral Guidelines
As politicians jostle for elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, has called on politicians and the electorate to adhere strictly to electoral guidelines to avoid unnecessary tension and turmoil.
The Speaker made the call during a Thanksgiving Service held in honour of an elderly woman, Habiba Markus, at the Assemblies of God Church, Nasarawa Eggon.
Although she may not be widely known beyond her community, Habiba Markus, the mother of business tycoon Markus Jonathan, used the occasion to appreciate God for attaining the age of 65.
The event attracted the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau; former Deputy Governor of the state, Labaran Maku; a federal lawmaker, Gaza Gbwefi; state lawmaker, Solomon Akwashiki; as well as business associates and other well-wishers who came to identify with Mama Habiba Markus.
The church described her as a humble, dedicated and generous mother, while speakers at the occasion highlighted her exemplary character and contributions to her family.
One after another, the guests, including the traditional ruler of Akun Chiefdom, Dr. James Angbazo, commended business tycoon Markus Jonathan for taking good care of his mother and supporting her into old age.
They reminded him of the biblical blessings associated with honouring and taking care of one’s parents.
Joining in the commendation of Markus Jonathan’s commitment to his mother, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, called on Nigerians to always support and care for the elderly.
He noted that the elderly had made significant sacrifices towards the growth and development of society and therefore deserved care, respect and attention from the younger generation.
Speaking on the political situation in the country, Dr. Jatau urged politicians and the electorate to adhere strictly to electoral guidelines during campaigns and the election period.
He warned that failure to do so could create unnecessary turmoil capable of undermining the peace, stability and development of Nasarawa State.
The Speaker also used the occasion to call on religious leaders across the country to continue praying for leaders at various levels of government for wisdom, understanding and divine direction in piloting the affairs of the nation.
Dr. Danladi Jatau further called for peace, unity and tolerance among Nigerians as essential ingredients for enhanced development.
