ACReSAL Launches Heavy-Duty Equipment for Environmental Protection
The Nasarawa State Government says it is committed to promoting safe environmental practices and tackling challenges associated with land degradation and climate change.
Governor Abdullahi Sule stated this at the launch of heavy-duty machines and equipment procured by the Nasarawa State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes, ACReSAL, programme.
Governor Abdullahi Sule said the launch of the heavy-duty machines and equipment demonstrated the commitment of the state ACReSAL programme to addressing climate change and promoting safe environmental practices.
He commended the National Coordinator of ACReSAL and the World Bank for their sustained support to Nasarawa State, while also praising the State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Margaret Elayo, for her approach to addressing environmental challenges.
Highlighting the importance of adopting safe environmental practices, the Governor explained that the excavators and other equipment would assist in desilting waterways and reclaiming degraded lands across the state.
The Nasarawa State Coordinator of ACReSAL, Dr. Napoleon Gyobe, said the state had procured the heavy-duty machines to help address challenges associated with land degradation.
He added that new strategies, including the development of a Catchment Management Plan, were also being considered to strengthen environmental management and improve the resilience of communities.
Commending the initiative, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Princess Margaret Elayo, stressed the importance of having qualified technical personnel to effectively operate and maintain the equipment.
She said the availability of the machines would contribute significantly to the state’s efforts to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable environmental practices.
The initiative also received commendation from the traditional institution. The Emir of Azara, Dr. Kabiru Musa, assured the state government of the support and collaboration of traditional rulers towards ensuring safe environmental practices across their respective communities.
