APC Chairman Urges Voters to Reject Ethnic and Religious Politics
Electorates in Nasarawa State have again been reminded to shun the politics of ethnicity and religion in the interest of peace, unity and development.
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Aliyu Bello, gave the charge at the inauguration of the 13 local government executives of the Hausa Fulani Development Association on Sunday.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Aliyu Bello described the Hausa Fulani community as peace-loving people who have contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of Nasarawa State.
He charged members of the community to be wary of politicians who adopt a divide-and-rule approach for selfish political interests.
While congratulating the new local government executives on their emergence, Dr. Bello stressed that as leaders, they must always guide their followers in the right direction and lead by example.
His position was supported by the Special Adviser to the Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, who also urged the newly inaugurated officials to put the interests of their members above personal considerations.
Administering the oath of office to the newly elected officials, Barrister Hassan Nasrullah Labaran charged them to abide by the rules and regulations governing the association.
In an acceptance speech on behalf of the 13 local government chairmen of the association, Rabo Sarki from Karu assured members of their readiness to carry everyone along in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He pledged that the new executives would work together to promote the welfare and unity of members across the state.
In separate goodwill messages, a former gubernatorial aspirant, Professor Muhammad Sani Haruna; a member of the State House of Assembly, Solomon Akwashiki; former Chairman of Kokona Local Government Council, Awwalu Adamu; and Deputy Chairman of Awe, Sani Musa Ibrahim, charged the Hausa Fulani community to remain ambassadors of peace.
They noted that no meaningful development could be achieved in an atmosphere of confusion, division and conflict.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the association, Abubakar Shuaibu Akwanga, expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation accorded him by members.
He explained that the association was established to champion the cause of peace and unity while also promoting the welfare of its members.
Abubakar Shuaibu Akwanga called on the newly inaugurated officials to be just, fair and transparent in their dealings, stressing that the success of the association would depend largely on responsible leadership.
