First Lady Unveils Fashion Hub to Empower Youths
The First Lady of Nasarawa State, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, has described skill acquisition as a veritable tool for youth empowerment and sustainable development in society.
Hajiya Sule stated this on Sunday during the commissioning of the Garkuwa Fashion Hub, an initiative of Adamu Tanko Umar, located along Andaha Road in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
The Garkuwa Fashion Hub, Akwanga, an initiative of Adamu Tanko Umar, popularly known as Adamu Custom, was established as a platform where young people and other interested individuals can acquire practical skills, develop their talents and build sustainable livelihoods.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the First Lady of Nasarawa State, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, said equipping young people with relevant vocational skills remains one of the most effective ways of making them self-reliant, productive and less dependent on white-collar jobs.
She commended the founder of the hub for investing in youth development and for complementing the efforts of the state government in tackling unemployment through fashion and creative enterprise.
Hajiya Sule also pledged to sponsor 40 youths from the three local government areas of Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba to acquire skills at the centre.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, Safiyanu Isa Andaha, and the Chun Mada, Samson Gamu Yare, commended Adamu Custom for establishing what they described as one of the best skills acquisition training centres in the state.
They urged youths in the area, particularly women, to take advantage of the centre to acquire practical skills that would improve their livelihoods and create opportunities for self-employment.
They assured the organisers of their continued support for initiatives that promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance in the state.
The Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area also pledged to sponsor 50 youths to undergo training at the centre, while Tony Bala Shammah, TBS, and other dignitaries also expressed their commitment to sponsor young people to acquire skills as a means of taking them off the streets.
On her part, the Nasarawa State Area Manager of the Industrial Training Fund, ITF, Barrister Halima Ali Muhammad, said the ITF would partner with Garkuwa Fashion Hub to train youths in different skills and prepare them to become employers of labour.
The President of the Mada Development Association, Engineer James Bashayi, called on other well-to-do individuals to support similar initiatives in order to create more job opportunities for the growing youth population in Nasarawa State.
