Ekye Development Area Declares 7-hour Curfew
The authority of Ekye Development Area has announced a curfew from 11pm to 6am in Rukubi town.
Overseer of the area Bello Akoza announced this during a security meeting.
According to the Overseer, the curfew which was aimed at addressing criminal activities in the area, was well-received by residents and local security agencies for its potential to reduce incidents such as kidnapping, farm disputes, and theft.
Akoza commended the security agencies for their quick response and continuous surveillance efforts, attributing the decrease in crime rates to their efforts.
The Overseer Ekye Development Area said the ban on the sale of substances like opium, codeine, marijuana, and cocaine was put in place to further deter criminal behavior.
The Osakpa of Akpanaja, Musa Abari Agye, emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among residents and urged local leaders to maintain peace within their respective domains.
During the meeting, representatives from different communities, including Fulani, Tiv and Agatu, highlighted the root causes of the conflicts between farmers and herders and discussed ways to find sustainable solutions to these issues.
Representatives from the Nigerian Army, NSCDC and the Police encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the security agencies promptly to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone in Rukubi.
