Meantime, Nigerians from all works of life have continued to highlight some key achievements recorded by the federal and state governments since the inception of democracy in 1999.

They made their feelings known while interacting with NBS News in commemoration of Nigeria democracy at 25 years.

Since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, the nation has continued to witness interrupted civil rule under the stewardship of five elected presidents, including Olusegun Obassnjo, late Umaru Musa Yar adua, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and the incubent Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The governments under these leaders have been described as successful who performed based on the situation they find themselves.

NBS News interacted with some Nigerians residents in the western senatorial district of Nasarawa state on the gains of democratic governance so far in the country.

Ibrahim Babayo, the Chairman, Friends of Police in Nigeria, rolled out some notable achievements of the present and past governments since the return to democracy in Nigeria especially in the areas of health, education and political governance among others.

The commissioner for Lands and urban Development in Nasarawa State, Ibrahim Bala Mulki, said democracy has brought development to Nigeria particularly Nasarawa state based on the infrastructural revolution currently taking place across the state as well as the just completed Abuja-Keffi-Lafia-Makurdi expressway linking the North with the south Eastern part of the country.

On the contrary however, another citizen, Mr. Bravo says he has not seen any significant changes in the country since 1999 but instead applauded Nasarawa state government for bringing investors into the state through mining activities.

He lamented how lands are being sold to foreigners without proper planning for future generations to come, calling for strategic planning in this regard.

While Nigerians and citizens of Nasarawa State alike still bask in the euphoria of this remarkable anniversary, it is hoped that the gains as well as the challenges identified will be properly harnessed by those in authorities in order to deepen the roots of democracy in the country.
