Nasarawa State Commemorates World Food Safety Day, Stresses Importance of Safe Food Practices
As the world marks 2024 Food Safety Day, stakeholders have been encouraged to take necessary measures to avoid food borne diseases in the society.
Nasarawa state Nutrition Officer, Hajiya Halima Yusuf made the call during a symposium organized to commemorate this year’s World Food Safety Day at the conference hall of the Nasarawa state ministry for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs in Lafia.
World Food Safety Day is celebrated annually on June 7 to raise awareness about the importance of food safety and promote actions to prevent, detect, and manage food borne risks.
The day highlights the critical role that food safety plays in ensuring that everyone has access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food.
Speaking on the importance of the day, State Nutrition Officer from the Nasarawa state ministry Health, Hajiya Halima Yusuf said, the program was organized to enlighten food vendors on safety tips while handling food products to avoid contamination.
Also contributing, Mr. Tolu Bonjoku a Policy and Advocacy Associate from an organization “Catalyzing Strengthen Policy Action for Health Diets and Resilience” CASCADE, Project in Nasarawa state called for enactments of law around food safety to better the health of the citizenry.
