Empowering the Vulnerable: Nasarawa State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Strengthens Partnerships with Religious Organizations
Represented by Blessings Embuga, Commissioner Elayo praised the Benue-Nasarawa Baptist Conference for its efforts in supporting the government’s initiatives to alleviate the struggles faced by the vulnerable. She emphasized the importance of such partnerships in aligning with governmental objectives.
The Nasarawa State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs is committed to collaborating with organizations dedicated to enhancing the livelihoods of society’s most vulnerable. This assurance was given by Commissioner Margaret Elayo during a review meeting of the Social Ministry of the Benue-Nasarawa Baptist Conference held at Mada-Hills Hall in Lafia.
Elayo highlighted the government’s ongoing battle against poverty, likening it to a “Hydra-headed monster,” and underscored the crucial role religious organizations play in these efforts. She encouraged the “Together We Can” initiative, a project of the Social Ministry, to continue its impactful humanitarian work.
Danladi Jatau, Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, echoed this sentiment through General Nuhu Angbazu, stating that the initiative is a vital step forward. He noted that the government alone cannot address all societal needs, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with religious and corporate entities to provide relief to the poorest.
Rev. Dr. Bulus Adamu Ali, President of the Benue-Nasarawa Baptist Conference, expressed concern over the economic struggles affecting both the community and the church. He explained that the launch of “Together We Can” aims to tackle these pressing issues.
Rev. Dr. Ishaya Yakubu Yusuf, Conference Chairman, urged those with resources to prioritize assistance for the vulnerable, asserting that true service to God requires action beyond mere words. He commended the social ministry members for their dedication.
Pastor Mrs. Maryamu Tama, Director of the Social Ministry, noted that “Together We Can” has expanded their capacity to address needs, particularly in crisis areas like Benue and parts of Nasarawa. She called on the government to implement urgent policies to reflect the current realities faced by many families and praised the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for its commitment to support these initiatives.
