Yahaya Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, has been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending his bail application. This decision was made by Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja.

The judge had previously refused to grant Bello’s bail application, citing that it was filed prematurely. According to Justice Anenih, the application was incompetent because it was filed before Bello was taken into custody or brought before the court.

Bello is standing trial alongside two others in an alleged N110 billion money laundering case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The hearing has been adjourned to January 29, 30, and February 25 and 27 for further proceedings.
