Embracing Cultural Heritage: Andoma of Doma Urges Nigerians to Preserve Tradition

The Andoma of Doma, Dr. Ahmadu Aliyu Oga Onawo, has made a passionate appeal to Nigerians to embrace their cultural heritage and preserve it from extinction. He made this call during the 2025 Odu Annual Festival, held in Doma on Tuesday.
Speaking through Ogbole of Doma, Mr. John Ogah, the royal father emphasized the importance of cultural events like the Odu festival, which brings people from diverse backgrounds together, promoting peaceful coexistence and unity of purpose Âą. The Odu festival is a significant event in the Alago community, celebrated annually to express gratitude to God for the previous year’s bumper harvest.
The Andoma of Doma urged the Alago people to preserve their rich cultural heritage by teaching and showcasing their norms, values, traditions, and culture. This call was echoed by the Idoma Woza Kengeh of Doma, Jafar Ahmad Akwe, who stressed that the Odu festival was established to foster unity in Alago land Âą.
The festival was marked by vibrant performances, including the acrobatic dance of Odu legendary known as “Eku” and the dance steps of the royal father, which added excitement to the occasion Âą. The Odu festival is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Alago people and serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving traditional values and customs.
