Nasarawa State Ministry of Information Pledges Support for Cultural Festival

The Nasarawa State Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism has pledged to partner with the Department of Theatre Arts and Cultural Studies, Nasarawa State University, to promote peace and unity in the state. This commitment was made during cultural activities organized by the Theatre Arts Department, held at the University’s Convocation Square in Keffi.
The Festival of Peace, organized by the Department of Theatre Arts and Cultural Studies, aimed to celebrate culture, peace, and unity among diverse ethnic nationalities in Nasarawa State and beyond. The event featured various entertaining groups from the Department of Theatre Arts of Nsuk, College of Education Akwanga, and Federal University of Lafia, showcasing their cultural prowess.
The Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Dr. Ibrahim Tanko, represented by the Executive Vice Chairman of Nasarawa Broadcasting service NBS, Mallam Awwalu Salihu, highlighted the importance of culture in promoting unity. He described culture as the way of life that identifies one’s origin and destination, stating, “Culture as you all know is a great unifier, culture builds confidence in you, you will know who you are, you will know where you are going and you will understand your environment and because of that you are able to relate confidently with people of other cultures who also know who they are and understand the environment.”
Dr. Tanko commended the Department of Theatre Arts and Cultural Studies for organizing the event, noting that the ministry will partner with the department to sustain cultural activities across Nasarawa State. He urged the university management to redouble its efforts in this direction.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, represented by DVC Research and Linkages, K’tso Nghargbu, expressed the management’s support for activities that promote unity in the institution. He stated that the Department of Theatre Arts is making the university proud through its cultural activities.
The event featured performances by various cultural troupes, including Prof. Dandaura Dynasty and Legacy Band, Hajiya Lantana Heritage Band, Dr. Phillip Umaru Band, and Prof. Victor Duga Band, among others. The festival also showcased cultural dishes prepared by students, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
