Obi Local Government Vows to Hold Perpetrators of Agyaragu Violence Accountable
The Obi Local Government Authority has pledged to identify and punish those responsible for the recent violence in Agyaragu, the headquarters of the Jenkwe Development Area. Chairman Isa Sani KK made this declaration during his visit to the two burned-down police stations in Agyaragu on Tuesday.
The violence erupted on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, following a motorcycle accident that claimed the life of an Army officer and some civilians. The incident led to tensions between Army and Nigerian Police officers, resulting in the destruction of the Nigerian Police Divisional Headquarters, another police station, and vehicles.
Chairman Isa Sani KK condemned the violence, emphasizing that his administration will not tolerate actions that undermine Governor Abdullahi Sule’s peace-building efforts. He urged the youth and residents to report issues to the authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.
Support for Affected Communities
- The Local Government will assist with medical bills and burial expenses for the injured and deceased.
- Temporary accommodations will be provided for the displaced police stations to maintain peace and order.
During his visit to the palace of Zhe Migili, Dr. Ayuba Agwadu Audu, Chairman Isa Sani KK received support from traditional leaders, who assured their cooperation in identifying the perpetrators.
Addressing Chieftaincy Dispute
Chairman Isa Sani KK also visited the District Head of Duglu, whose residence was destroyed by angry youths due to a chieftaincy dispute. He urged community members to refrain from violence and promised proactive measures to address the situation and hold those responsible accountable.
