Nasarawa State Government Pledges Support to End Gender-Based Violence
Nasarawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ending gender-based violence in the state. Governor Abdullahi Sule made this pledge during the 2024 16 Days Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
The Governor expressed his administration’s displeasure over the increasing trend of gender violence, praising the state’s First Lady, Salifat Abdullahi Sule, for her efforts in supporting the cause. This gesture aligns with the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim’s advocacy for protecting women’s rights.
The Minister called for stringent measures, including death by hanging, to punish offenders. Aisha Rufai Ibrahim, State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, acknowledged the support of the Minister, Governor Sule, and development partners in strengthening advocacy against gender-based violence.
The state government’s efforts aim to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence in Nasarawa State. The 16 Days Activism, held from November 25 to December 10, highlighted the Governor’s initiatives in championing this cause.
