First Lady Urges Women to Prioritize Regular Medical Check-ups to Reduce Cancer Cases
Nasarawa State’s First Lady, Hajiya Salifat Abdullahi Sule, has made a passionate appeal to women in the state to prioritize regular medical check-ups as a crucial step in reducing cancer cases. This call to action was made during a health walk marking World Cancer Day, where she emphasized the importance of knowing one’s cancer status.
The “Walk Away Cancer” rally, organized by the Salifat Abdullahi Sule Hope Foundation in collaboration with national and international organizations, aimed to raise awareness about cancer’s effects, especially among women. Hajiya Salifat Abdullahi Sule stressed that cancer has caused immense hardship and loss of lives, highlighting the need for regular breast checks and medical screenings.
The First Lady’s foundation plans to partner with stakeholders to educate the public about cancer and promote awareness on regular medical check-ups for early detection and treatment. This proactive approach is expected to empower women with the knowledge and resources needed to take control of their health.
Chief Medical Director of Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia, Dr. Ikrama Hassan, echoed the importance of early cancer detection, encouraging women to prioritize self-checks. He commended the rally’s organizers for promoting awareness about medical check-ups, emphasizing that regular screenings can significantly reduce cancer cases.
Other speakers described the health walk as a timely initiative, promising continued sensitization and awareness campaigns about cancer in Nasarawa State.
