Food Safety Matters: Nasarawa State Trains Key Actors in School Feeding Programme

Nasarawa State office of the Social Investment Agency has organized a three-day workshop to train key actors of the School Feeding Programme in the state on food safety. The training which drew participants from four selected Local Government Areas in the State, took place at the Ta’al Conference Hotel Annext Lafia.

The three-day workshop, put together by the Nasarawa State Office of the Social Investment Agency in collaboration with the Office of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, was aimed at educating cooks, distribution agents and desk officers on how best to carry out their responsibilities.

Addressing the participants drawn from Akwanga, Awe, Keana and Lafia Local Government Areas, the Director General, Nasarawa State Social Investment Agency, Imran Usman Jibrin, said the training will build the capacity of the participants to add value to the school feeding programme exercise in the state.

Imran Usman Jibrin explained that the training which had facilitators from the nongovernmental organizations, CARE and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition GAIN, was carefully designed to promote hygiene practices while preparing meal for Primary School Pupils in the State.

The Director General, Nasarawa State Social Investment Agency, emphasized that after the exercise, it is expected that all actors responsible for preparing meal for pupils, would be well equipped on how to source and prepare food that is safe for consumption.

Resource persons from the non governmental organizations, CARE and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition GAIN, took time to educate the participants on how to source hygienic foods and prepare same for the betterment of school pupils of the State.
