Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, has been appointed as a member of the National Flood, Erosion, Drought, and Desertification Management Council. This appointment was made during the National Economic Council’s 142nd meeting at the State House in Abuja.

The council was inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima and was established based on recommendations from an updated roadmap on disaster management. This roadmap was developed by a committee led by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo under the National Economic Council’s direction.

Council’s Mandate:

  • Establish a comprehensive approach to combating environmental and climate-induced disasters
  • Foster collaborative efforts across government agencies and regions

As a member of this council, Dr. Akabe will play a crucial role in addressing the growing challenges of environmental and climate-induced disasters in Nigeria. His experience as Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State and his background in medicine will undoubtedly contribute to the council’s efforts.

The appointment was communicated through a letter from Senator Ibrahim Hadeja, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Office of the Vice President. This development highlights the National Economic Council’s commitment to tackling environmental issues and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria.
