Nasarawa State Government Sets to Implement Civil Servants’ Promotions
Nasarawa State Government has worked out all modalities to ensure civil servants in the state enjoy their promotion benefits.
The state Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, stated this during a meeting with leaders of the organised labour in the state at his temporary office in Lafia.
Noting that government need to balance between what it gets and what it spends in view of the competing demands occasioned by the current economic realities, the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe said the the leadership of the state is also not mindful of the plight of workers.
As such, he assured the labour leaders of persuading his Principal, Governor Abdullahi Sule to see the need to formally implement promotions that have been pending without cash backing, urging the labour unions to allow government tackle one issue at a time as they await the report of the tripartite committee set up to look into the new National Minimum Wage.
He appreciated the labour leaders for their patience with the government, saying the present administration will not fail in its responsibility of catering for its workforce.
Chairman of the NLC in the state, Comrade Ayuba Ismai’la Oko, his TUC counterpart, Comrade Mohammed Doma and that of the Joint Negotiation Council, Comrade Shawulu Tama who lauded the labour friendly posture of Governor Abdullahi Sule, however expressed regret over the delay in worker’s promotion and appealed for consideration of consequential adjustment for those in the senior cadre in the implementation of the promotion.
Meantime, the state Deputy Governor was a guest of an NBS programme, “Anniversary Special” where he gave a score card of their administration since they came onboard, highlighting the ongoing construction of legacy projects such as secretariat, underpass and overhead bridge, dualization of Shendam road as well as reconstruction of rural roads among other laudable ones as plus to the Engineer Abdullahi Sule led government.
Attributing prudence, accountability in the management of resources and commitment to service as the drive behind the improvement in revenue profile of the state, Dr. Akabe called on people of the state to sustain the relative peace in the state for investment to thrive, just as he described the recently concluded investment summit as a huge success for the state.
